Get our review of NBA 2K17 on the flip and see why we are raving about this game…
All you need to know about this game is that NBA 2K17 is one of the best sports games ever.
Sports games are all about the core experience; how it looks, how it feels, how it controls. NBA 2K17 is hard to fault.
The movement’s fast and incredibly fluid, making setting up plays and taking shots at the hoop a real joy. The controls for dribbling, passing and shooting are simple enough for almost anyone to pick up, but there’s a depth and detail in the aiming. The timing has a brilliant use of the right analogue stick to send shots down through the basket from long-range, medium range or right up close.
Not only that. When on the defense things can be a bit trickier – but in a game with so many rules about how and where you’re allowed to grab the ball, that’s not unnatural. The balance between authenticity and play ability is nigh on perfect.
The control works with ease with NBA 2K17 so you can control the action puts the focus where it should be; on making space for plays, guarding the basket. This helps you to mark your opponent so closely that they can’t find room to score.
NBA 2K17 has truly outdone itself. You’ll marvel at the speed with which your team pulls off passes, moving the ball from one end to the other.
The game will even have you pondering why the rules make it an advantage to foul deliberately in the last stage of the game, just to give the losing team a little more time. There’s real tension, excitement and drama here, and NBA2K17 is more than happy to reflect every aspect of its beloved sport.
NBA 2K17 makes the most of this, delivering 1080p visual graphics which are superbly detailed. The game looks fantastic in action too. Basketball has NEVER looked so good. Player animation, cloth dynamics, skin rendering, lighting effects and blur are easily on a par with the latest FIFA and PES, and it’s only when you get close-up to the players that you’ll note that the likenesses.
What’s more, NBA 2K17 has MyCareer, its own version of FIFA 17’s Journey mode. You can create your own player then help them move from college basketball through to the NBA, playing from the one position. MyCareer counters with an enjoyable, relaxed vibe, a strong guest turn from actor Michael B. Jordan and some nice cameos from players and personalities like Thierry Henry.
NBA 2K17 gets just about everything right. The action on the court is fast, fluid and accessible, and details. The game will have you hooked this year.
